Default National Library of Scotland Digital Archive.

Not only for those interested in the First World War Western Front, but also for those interested in the uniforms of the period, a whole bunch of period photographs. Most interesting are #2 and #6 for the allied troops.

Default Fascinating

Hi Jo,

A really impressive site. I did some zooming and panning to get this. This is just one example of fairly clear images of badges and shoulder titles. I leave it to the id gurus to tell us what this badge is. Lots to explore.

Thanks.

Don

Default A Little Harder

I rather thought Royal Fusiliers too. I have no idea about this one. Any thoughts? I'm assuming it's the same unit. Both are from the same picture.

And one of the worst badges (IMO) for ascertaining if genuine or not (the cap badge that is), unless anyone knows the tell tale signs of a 20th Hussars repo.

Why has he got a couple of twigs in his hat band?

Default Hat twigs

A couple of things spring to mind:

Early trials in camouflage or

It's Christmas & he's put some mistletoe in his hat hoping for a kiss or

It's a regimental thing like putting shamrock, leeks, roses etc in your headgear.

Anyway, a fascinating web site, that needs an in depth look. Thanks for finding it.

All the best,
Alan
