The Queens Own Yeomanary?
Would an original East Riding Yeomanary and Queens Own Yeomanary badges be hard to come by and what would a good price be for originals? Also what are some of the tell tale signs of a restrike?
Cheers, Nick |

Don't know about the East Riding Yeomanry but the Queen's Own Yeomanry is still in existence so genuine badges are quite plentiful. Wouldn't expect to pay more than £5 for that one, perhaps even less.

There are 2 types of East Riding yeomanry. The plain running fox in all brass and the second pattern with a white metal scroll.
Both are very hard to find but there are lots of repros on the market especially of the second pattern badge. I would be looking for brasing hole son the back of these as a sign of a good one. They also come with lugs as the same design was also used for a collar badge. QOY badges are easily found in a/a. The NCOs wear privately purchased bi-metal ones and there are lots of these for sale as they have been made in huge numbers that are well beyond the regtl requirment. |

Thanks, thats good news. In Alans post I note that badges with lugs are collar badges, mine has lugs therefor am I rite in thinking that it is a collar and not a cap badge. John.

As they wore black berets in WW2, this is a contested area. It has been argued that a lugged badge (once a collar) was the one worn in the beret.

This metal badge collecting gets very complicated, nevertheless at least I am reassured that my badge is O.K. John.

East riding Yeomanry
There appears to be two distinct style of scroll and fox to these badges.
The LH one.. fat fox, partial white metal scroll, large characters. The RH one... thin fox, full white metal scroll, smaller characters. Both have brazing holes. I have always believed them to be a different manufacture's variant. The running fox is one that I am not sure of, and would welcome comments from members. Jim |

Apparently there is also a white metal version of the Imperial Yeomanry(without scroll) as is the fox on the full dress lance cap plate. Cheers Sean.
