Arm Badges
Hi
Your badge looks like a foreign cast 8th Hussars or 5th Lancers NCO's Arm Badge. It is probably of Indian or Egyptian manufacture. These badges were made for the regiments serving overseas by local craftsmen when replacements from home were not available. Both the Victorian Crown and Tudor Crown version were made in voided and unvoided patterns. Generally the foreign cast versions appear to be unvoided. I assume they were easier to manufacture. The attachment shows three unvoided badges from my collection. The Tudor Crown version is cast. Page 128 of Linaker and Dines Arm badge book shows a photo of a badge similiar to yours. Hope this is helpful. Regards Bob. |
