WW2 Commando Insignia
Hi,
I have the opportunity to purchase the following Commando insignia. As much of the insignia has been copied to death, I am seeking guidance on the authenticity of these badges. Personally I have doubts about two and not enough experience to decide on the rest. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Andy |

All fake Andy I'm afraid
All the embroidered badges look Pakistani made with the spaghetti backs. The printed No 2 is also a know fake, with both colours printed on a white synthetic backing, whereas the original was just printed black on red cotton/canvas cheers Paul

Hi Paul,
Really fast and informative response, thanks. I must admit the V.Commando & F.F. Commando set off the warning bells with the Pakistani spaghetti backs. I was unaware of the No.2 Commando so thank you for the heads up on that. I thought there might have been a chance on the D Troop having never seen the back of a genuine one. Thanks again, Andy |

It is worth while to study an remember these. The style and construction is used on many fakes, not just these. Could save you from a mistake in the future.

Thanks guys.
Just saved myself a fortune and learnt what to watch out for in the future. Excellent and supportive guidance from the members of this forum. Andy |

A "fortune" is the issue, I have no particular problem with fakes in themselves when sold as just that, but, so many dishonest buggers come along and very deliberately offer their wares at a nowhere sort of price, under the value of original examples, but, way too much for a relatively low cost fake.
Of course, there are the sellers who simply "don't know" but, they should consider do a little research before they offer their wares, any reputation once lost is permanent. |
