Warwickshire I.Y.
I picked this badge up in a small lot over the weekend and am having a little trouble identifying it. It doesn't seem to be in K & K so maybe a collar? Seems large for that though at about 41mm. Any comments appreciated... thanks Jim

Hello Jim.....
I have the same badge, white metal, 40.97 mm, the label that came with it states that it is the Boer War period Slouch Hat Badge..... Along with it was a collar which is the plain Bear and it is 25.6 mm...... Mike

Warwickshire IY Badge
Looks like a restrike, this is a commonly copied badge, artificailly darkened.

I'm alot happier with the option of it being a slouch hat badge from the Boer War than it being a restrike obviously. I'm not sure it is that common of a badge to start with having the bottom banner let alone being a common restrke. Fantasy badge?.. as for it being artifically darkened I think it's more a function of not having the flash on when I took the picture. There is alot of green verdigis around the lug area and I'm happy it's proper patina. Any comments from the UK experts as this one should be duck soup for them if it is a common restrike. thanks Jim A

It is a very common restrike but I do not have a confirmed genuine one to compare.

Here are some pictures of mine..... I purchased it from a very reputable british dealer a number of years ago long before ebay and I am sure they were not in the habit of selling restrikes......
I am wondering if it may have been a locally made badge...... Mike I have also attached a copy of the collar.......

Mike... I'd say that's the same badge as mine... I'd like to see a comment or two from the other side of the pond on this one as it's a very well made badge and I can't see it as being a restrike... Jim

Hi,
This thread has got me wondering if my badge is a restrike. Opinions welcome. Cheers, Tinto |

These badges worry me as they are:
1. Abundant whereas all other IY badges are very rare. 2. Not in any book that I have ever seen and not in K&K at all. 3. Not seen in any Warcs Yeo photo that I know of. 4. With a grammatically incorrect full stop at the end of Wawickshire. As such I can find nothing to compare them to. Alan |

Hi,
There is a Warwickshire IY badge pictured in F. Wilkinson's book, "Cavalry and Yeomanry Badges of the British Army 1914", pub. 1973. Tinto |

For Jim's, Actic Medals and Alan's sake, is it the same as the badges pictured here....???? What is the period mentioned in the book? Mike

Hi Mike,
Here is scan of illustration in Wilkinson's book, page 24, No.90, described as "Imperial Yeomanry, mw, r." (r for rings). No period mentioned. Tinto |
