Sherwood Rangers Yeomanry Cavalry
A member of the public has sent a copy of this circa 1880 photograph to the Oxfordshire & Buckinghamshire Light Infantry Museum, asking if it could be OLR? However, we think it is likely to be the Sherwood Rangers Yeomanry Cavalry - does anyone have any further ideas about the bugle badge?

Intersting. I had hoped to be able to put my hands on a special publication prepared by the MHS in 2 parts. Line Cavalry and one for Yeomanry Sabretaches, cannot find them at the moment. I do not know for certain but from the photographs and illustrations off the web it looks as though the full dress uniform of the SRY had black trim, same with the badge on the headdress which looks black. I have attached an intesting link to a website with many illustrations of contemporary uniforms that may be of interest.

The MHS Publication Yeomanry and other Sabretaches illustrates an identical sabretache at number 50 described as "Sherwood Rangers full dress mid Victorian."

Many thanks to those who have responded. It does indeed appear to be the Sherwood Rangers - curiously, the photograph turned up in Australia.
