Default 16/5th Lancers

Gentlemen,

I've just bought this wonderful badge. THe top of the lances is missing but the back of the badge reveals some unexpected info. Does anybody have an idea about the marker's markings here?
Here is what I can read:

???? BIHARI & BROS
ALIGARH.U.P

Cheers
Phil

I have seen this maker before on a number of 1930s-40s Indian made badges. I don't know when the 16/5th were in India but I am sure you could find out and get an approximate date for it.

Afternote:
http://www.qrl.uk.com/h_16_5.html This site would suggest pre-1940.

Alan

Believe they were at Secunderbad November 1937 to September 1939.

India would also be logical:
Would ALIGARH.U.P stand for Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh which is in the North of the country, South-East of New Delhi???

Thanks you very much Gentlemen, am very happy. I ignore how much it is worth but I only paid £3.99 for it and it is one of the most beautiful piece in my collection!
Cheers
Phil

In the days of manufacture U.P. stood for "United Provinces".

I've spotted the following post-war badge. What do you think of it? Good or fake?

Well, I couldn't resist and bought it. I'll now wait and see what it's really like when I have it in hands!

I have this exact same 16/5 Lancers, albeit with the lance tips intact
It is a very nicely made badge and I can only assume these badges were sourced in India during the time the regiment was stationed there before the war as has been mentioned. It does go to show that not all Indian made badges were of poor quality, as many collectors think.
