1st Life Guards Pouch/Cartouche badge?
This is what I believe to be a 1st Life Guards O/R's 'pouch' badge...
- but from what period - i.e. 'could' have been made pre 1900 but is it likely to have lasted (i.e. worn) up to the 1st/2nd amalgamation? I would have thought 'The Guards' to have been extremely particular about this sort of thing..... The '1' is separately mounted via 2 bent over pins at the back. It has 2 lower E/W screw posts and one behind the crown at the bottom. Its height is 9.5 cms (its width can be seen via the ruler). Does anyone have any info about period of use. Its really manky and in a right old state, but I do not intend carry out any cleaning of it - at all. Thanks for your help. david |

David - A nice original item ! As an other ranks' pattern pouch badge it isn't easy to get photographic evidence of when it might have been worn post 1901 - worn on the back, photographs rarely view a subject from that aspect. However, it is likely that the majority of troopers would have contemporary accoutrements pretty quickly after the accession of a new monarch. I need to check Dress Regulations for a start date but certainly pre 1902. I have a period pouch and belt just waiting for one of these - if your plate is ever available. GD
