I had better start again, having deleted the original post, that I came to correct.

The Argylls are from the 1st Battalion and, along with 1st Middlesex, were rushed to Korea from the Hong Kong garrison. The Cockerel badge is 40th Division, and is worn in memory of the WW1 40th Division, which was part Bantam.

Meanwhile, the Brigade that fought on the Imjim River was making its way east - Royal Northumberland Fusiliers, Glosters and Royal Ulster Rifles.

For this action 1st Glosters got a US Presidential Citation. As did a Royal Artillery Battery and a Belgian unit.

Bonsoir,
Thank you for these very interesting pictures of the 27th Brigade troops arriving, from Hong Kong, in the Pusan harbour, on the 29th august 1950. These Argylls display the typical (and highly desirable) insignia holder, typical of the 1/ Argyll and Sutherland with the 40th Division insignia and the regiemental red and white checkboard.
The Die Hards of the 1/Middlesex did not use these insignia holders, they sewn their 4Oth DI directly on their bush jackets.

Thank you tho share

Cheers

Valery

A probale explaanation for the ndifferent ways of wearing the insignia could b ethat the A & SH , being in Hong Kong had had longer to get their tropical dress sorted while the Glosters , coming out from UK , had simply sewn their insignia on prior to embarkation.
