Default 15th Recce

Can anyone confirm please the history of these badges and when they were introduced? Do they have any war-time pedigree or are they a veterans badge?

This particular example has come from a veteran who claims it to be original WW2, but the standard of manufacture would seem to question this.

They are described in a couple of books as WW2 Chrome Officers badges.
