Thanks for that James, the "tea room" book is fascinating. I have a photo around somewhere of F Company. Whittlesey is one of my closest towns here in the deep, dark fens.

I am so pleased that the library is publishing the visitors book online and trying to build up a database. One can only wonder how many of those who signed the book were returned safely to their families?

It's terribly poignant.
Yes it's rife for research. I recently borrowed a book about the men commemorated on Peterborough's war memorials, would have been interesting to read the two books in tandem. Sadly I've already returned it so that's that scuppered!

I went to Salisbury Rd. School in Romford for a short time around 1947/8. Does anyone know if there is any mention of this unfortunate Corporal on the School property? I have no recollections of the school now excepting I believe a very imposing wrought Iron railing at the front (street side) of the school. Having lived in Canada now for over 50 years it's strange how every once in a while , some small item in the forum jolts me back to "Dear Old Blighty"
