Default Soldier Photographs with trophies of War

I am interested by the occasional photograph you see of a soldier holding or wearing an item of captured war booty. The image generally beg the questions regarding the circumstances that the soldier obtained this item. The how and where? And does this souvenir have any special significance? Only the soldier himself would know the answer, was it traded for a cigarette, taken from a prisoner or corpse, found after a battle, purchased in shop, who knows?

I would like to see war booty photographs from all nations, and kick off the thread with an image of a German Tank NCO in tropical uniform wearing a Royal Tank Regiment badge in his side cap.

I have a few of these images, and if the forum is interested, will post others.

Keith

A Daily Mail War Picture from the Great War "The possession of a German helmet delights "Tommy" and such trophies have become very common in the Big Push. Several are worn by these smiling troops".

Members of a French medical unit in French 1st Armd Div with a very useful souvenir, some British war correspondents with another and a member of the RAAF with yet another. Dr Porsche would have been flattered!

Hi Chaps

Somewhere I have a few photos of my late father and several of his comrades dressed in / draped in / displaying several captured Nazi flags. They were taken in Europe 1944/1945, possibly celebrating VE Day but I think they might date from a few months prior to that.

I'm not going to post them as I know some Forum members would find the very clearly displayed Nazi emblems objectionable but I thought I would mention them anyway!

A member of the German Luftwaffe in tropical uniform wearing a Tommy helmet, I wonder if the pipe was captured too?
