Identification
Is there any simple way in which I could obtain further information about the following soldier:
888039 Gnr Alfred Charles PETERS RA (LAA) Joined TA 21 Nov 38 Total Service - 7 years and 37 days Embodied Service - 6 years and 118 days Served: Iraq, Egypt - 26 Sep 41 - 21 Aug 43 Tripoli - 22 Aug 43 - 9 Sep 43 CMF - 10 Sep 43 - 18 May 45 Discharged on medical grounds 28 Dec 45 That seems to be all the information his family have - all taken rom AF B 108 (Discharge Certificate) Only medal entitlement on the certificate was the Africa Star. Any ideas on how to expand this information would be very welcome. Mike |

As well as the various ancestry type web sites, the Next of Kin can request the service records.

If he is deceased and you can prove it, you could yourself apply to the MOD for a copy of his service papers, under the Freedom of Information Act, if you can't, I would have thought a copy could be sent to his immediate next of kin.

Leigh,
A heartfelt 'thank you' for providing those links. I did not realise that I could now apply for the records of my fathers cousin who was killed near Arras during WW2. This has given me fresh hope and I am really so grateful. Thank You Best regards James |

Glad the info's of use.
On a different note, I don't know how aware people are that surviving veterans of WWII service to France can now apply for award of the Legion d'Honeur. Unfortunately there appears to be quite a delay in dealing with the applications, and don't expect any acknowledgement of receipt of an application. Not a great state of affairs when you consider the age of the applicants. :https://www.gov.uk/government/public...egion-dhonneur |
