Leeds Pals Memorial Colsterdale
A couple of pics of the memorial in Colsterdale near Masham, North Yorkshire where the pals were camped in 1914.
This is a lovely memorial, well looked after and has interesting dedications and objects left, always worth a peek in the memorial box. Also set in the most beautiful countryside in Britain, bar none Alli Last edited by Tigerlily; 05-09-15 at 01:45 PM. Reason: left out a word! |

I'm all about the Champagne and whisky darling, how dare you suggest I would imbibe beer.
It was Riggwelter actually and it's a bloody good job I took the pictures pre and not apres |

Ah right - nice story behind the ownership & siting of those two breweries isn't it.

I think the people of Masham are very lucky.
I used to live in Faversham and that was amazing, I used to love the smells from the Shepherd Neame brewery. Love a bit of Spitfire. |

Never been a Spitfire fan or of Shepherd Neame in general, until a couple of years ago when I discovered their strong porter & IPA.
Used to be a great advertising campaign though - "Downed all over Kent - just like the Luftwaffe". |

My favourites have always been Samuel Smith IPA, Timothy Taylor Landlord and Everard Tiger(obviously-its all about the tigers with me) and I used to love Eldridge Pope Royal Oak. Don't drink beer much any more though, occasional half. Normally something pink, bubbly and expensive or one of my boys Mr Jack, Mr Jim or my beloved Mr J on ice.

Timmy Taylor's Landlord was my first ever real ale. I was at The Barnsley Beer Festival last night & managed to get 10 different ones.
Giving it a miss tonight as I'm out early tomorrow on another badge hunt.

In my younger days, I used to do all 3 days & try for a half of every beer there.
I've finally learned my limits!

Used to do that at the Great British Beer Festival at Olympia. Fun times!

Yeah. I used to do every day of the P'boro beer festival, staggering off at the finish the Sunday afternoon with a full carry out jug hooked on each finger.
Didn't even bother to go last weekend. Or the year before, or before that etc etc....... That's me nowadays - too idle to drink if I've got to get up & get the stuff. |

All this beer talk has reminded me of the carefree days of Oktoberfest in Munich. I use to attend a "conference" there, for 5 or 6 years in the early 2000's, even had my (and still have) own Lederhosen. Now that's hard core. I use to hang out with a friend who's father was a somewhat famous (and Knights cross recipient) Panzer commander in WW2. Opened a lot of doors, even then.
Mind you, that was one day, at least for me, multi days are beyond me, then and now... Tim |
