Under the Radar
Most of us have a moan about E bay every now and again but sometimes hidden amongst the dross is a gem if you can find it.
In this mornings post was an absolutely genuine Liverpool Irish Officers post 1939 caubeen badge complete with the marked J.R.Gaunt London slider just as it should be. I got the badge for the opening bid and despite the fact that part of the slider is missing ( I think it might well have been done by the original owner to make it fit more securely on the caubeen ) and it is not the first example I have of the badge, I am very pleased to have won the badge and there is a space in my collection that is waiting for it. I thought the badge looked a little more solid than the usual die struck examples ( that have been reproduced in great numbers ) in the photo on E bay and a message to the seller produced a picture of the rear which confirmed that it was what I hoped it was going to be. All in all a very good day. P.B.
