Can you Identify this
Hello,
This sturdy iron structure is on a hillside near where I live. Its large enough for a person to be in it, it had a hinged door and a seat. I have two theories. 1. Its a WW2 lookout post with commanding views up valleys to the east. 2. Its on the outer boundary of a Victorian into WW2 military rifle range and roughly where it is the OS Map indicates 'F.S.' which is a flagstaff. Its very substantial to put a red flag on it I would have thought. What ideas does anyone else have? regards

Simon,
it could have been a beacon with a light/fire inside for night firing? |

It may have been a sentry box for a safety lookout.

Looks like it has been repurposed to me, the top semi circle plate looks like an addition, I reckon there was another rolled section picking up on the unused rivet holes at the top, could have started life as a cylinder and been cut in half. Maybe part of a ship?
Tony.

Interesting, I thought it looked like half a steam train tank
