Hi Guys,
Thought I'd share these with you all - it's my next project. I plan to get all these framed up. A nice set of WW1 Victoria Cross action cigarette cards. Enjoy! Mick

That looks to be a fabulous collection. Once they are mounted, they will look superb.

Thanks guys.
These were sitting in an old album so I thought I'd get them framed up. I also have a set of medal and decoration cards. Selling these for AUD$100 plus postage if anyone is interested. Mick

Very nice! May I ask how you plan to frame them? Do they have information on the back?I ask because I have a full set of WW1 military vehicles cigarette cards, and would love to get them framed, but don't really want to glue them to a backing. And getting them aligned without some adhesive is hard. Cheers Colin

Art, history and adventure, combined in miniature. Wonder what happened to all the original, larger sized artwork?
I recently completed a collection of "Regimental Pets", depicting military mascots. Because I thgt they might get the most interest and attention from potential viewers in such a place, they are now framed and mounted on the wall for the perusal of all who sit on the throne in our smallest room. Happy New Year and best regards to all. William |

Hi Colin,
No idea as yet. They do have good info on the VC action on the back so I guess I would be looking for advice on how to best frame them. I'm open to suggestions. Regards, Mick Quote:

Here's a frame of some other VC heroes that I found online.
I might try and do something similar. Mick

The frames you show are beautifully done, probably profesionally? The Players frame is exceptional, giving a nice context. The problem we have though, is that our cards are both horizontal and vertical, and following the numbering would not necessarily look aesthetically pleasing If I bunch up the horizontals and verticals, they just look messy. Also, I hate the idea of gluing them , and in extention losing the info on the back. I, too, would be very Interested in ideas for such a frame ! Cheers Colin

Hi Gents,
As someone keen on framing I can understand the issues. I have given this some thought and have a couple of ideas to share. As for displaying a mixture of horizontal and vertical cards; it may be possible to create a rectangle display using some horizontal examples along the top with some vertical examples on the sides. Those left could be place in the centre slightly diagonally. It's a bit messy but the attached screen shot should give you and idea what I'm talking about. I could work out a more accurate and aesthetic pleasing layout if you needed help with that. As for gluing. How about scanning them and creating nice copies. This way the originals can be stored safely and the new copies can be glued to your hearts content. Cheers, Roy.

Thanks Colin,
I enjoy problem solving. I'm also keen to help in any way I can. On a related note; I recall when I way around five years old - seeing 'two' full size dresser draws FULL to the brim of cigaret (Woodbine) cards. There must have been thousands. Perhaps that is what planted the seeds of collecting in me? Of course that many cards only meant one thing back then - my father was a lifelong and heavy smoker and died shortly afterwards. However that experience didn't taint my appreciation for these fascinating and artistic pieces, although I must confess to noting having any at all but wish I knew where all those thousands of cards went. Here to help if I can. Cheers, Roy.

It is possible to order a custom made mount and frame, with glass back and front, and clips to allow easy opening whenever required.
Have a look at Lee Towersey's website, www.cigarettecards.co.uk. His email is Lee@CigaretteCards.co.uk. Although he is not a personal friend or relation, I can certainly recommend his work. The frame and mount he produced for me are of a professional quality. Best rgds to all. William . |
