Hi Harry, my rusty school boy latin tells me that the motto translates to something like.....the love of my country leads me on.

I am not sure from which war your badge is from, I think it would be incorrect to assume it is WW2 with out further research. I believe many companies had such badges which were manufactured by Gaunts etc. Along with Air Raid Wardens many large organisations also raised their own home guard units from employees.

That I am afraid is my best educated guess.

It's a Great war "London Telephone Service" (LTS), badge awarded to female telephone operators who stayed at their posts during Zeppelin raids. It was awarded by the post master general.

Nice find. How did you know that Tom?

The badge was awarded between 1916 - 1918.

There was an example in the Boselys Sale 29th OCTOBER 2008 Lot 358 sold for £25.

Googled LTS then just followed that up with an air raid search of that search

Thanks for your help chaps,seems to be an interesting badge.After you mentioned Bosleys I had a look at DNW's archive and found 8 past lots. The prices here vary from about £50/£250,I guess it's who is at the auction on the day?

That was the most recent auction I could find. its a sign of the times I`m afraid. There are only a select few items that seam to have held their value in this economic crisis. On the plus side a lot more interesting material is appearing on the market for reasonable prices.

Expensive stuff is holding it's value (i.e. medals into the thousands), but the smaller stuff has definately taken a sharp downturn as collectors empty their excess to get money (personal and collecting money).
