Military Historical Society - Bulletin Reprints
As some may know the Military Historical Society's Bulletin has been published in book form. Each book containing facsimiles of five years worth of the journal.
I have four of these books, covering the period from the M Her S's foundation in 1950 until 1970. Does anybody know if M Her S Bulletins later than 1970 have been re-printed?

Hello BWEF,
Sadly no they have not. I just hope that one day they will produce an up to date index as it takes ages to find articles even if you know roughly when the article appeared. There was a searchable index for all Bulletins on the MHS website that seems to have been replaced by one for individual volumes. I ended up making a list of all Kings Liverpool related articles which makes it easler to find them when I need to. Peter

I have the four books that I mention above and am left with a gap of 2 or 3 years in the early 1970s. I had hoped to obtain the 1970 - 1975 book, if it had existed, to complete the run. I agree with Peter Brydon. It is murder trying to find any article in individual copies of the Bulletin.

MHS
As a result of this thread I looked at the MHS web-site. There are no adverts for the re-printed volumes being available, but there are a series of on-line index documents. I cannot comment upon how accurate they are though.

Stephen,
I don't think the reprints of the early volumes have been available for some considerable time. The index documents seem OK except you have to make a number of searches instead of one, it may be a senior moment but I am convinced that there was a single searchable index for all Bulletins when the new MHS Website first appeared but it now seems to have disappeared. Regards Peter

No it's still there because I used it today. I'm chasing a section from one of the early issues in the 50's.

They sometimes sell for as little as a tenner and the only problem is that, in my case, each volume is a different colour - red, black, green and blue. Best source I have found is abebooks, and there are some on there now: http://www.abebooks.co.uk/

The four bound volumes comprising Vols. I (No. 1, August 1950) to XX (No. 80, May 1970) were never reprinted.
Bulletins, when still available, are here: http://www.themilitaryhistoricalsoci...&category_id=1 Indexes are here: http://www.themilitaryhistoricalsoci...ons/index.html Rgds, Thomas. |
