Default Hasty P's

When I started collecting badges, I was told that the officers of the Hasty P's wore the same OR's badges. Last year I came across this....cast and made from a superior die in bronze. My guess is that it is theatre made...but certainly a better looking badge than the regular OR's.

Any ideas or comments?

I have seen this badge before, however I assumed it was an Officers S.D. Badge. Maybe a quick note to the Regiment would be in order.

Default Officer's badge

I take it to be an officer's badge as well. The question remains whether or not the officers did this themselves. I've not seen an example made by a known badge maker ie Gaunt, Scully, Roden , Birks .........

Default OSD badges

I was told the same thing re. the H&PE's not having distinct officers badges. I do however, have a similar cast badge which appears to be in a darkened copper. I also have a bronzed version of the typical OR's badge. I believe both are period pieces.
I would assume the cast badges were locally made - didn't Farley Mowat mention something like this in "The Regiment"? I am curious about what was used for the mold. These are definately not cast using the wartime OR's badge as a pattern. Was there an earlier issue that might have been used as the master?

Default Gilt Badge

Here's a new one. The badge is gilt, & voided with a semi struck up reverse. Lugged with no maker mark. It's considerably thicker & heavier than the OR pattern.

I can't say when this was made or worn, but it certainly appears to be a factory made officer's badge.

Nice badge Doug.
Is it plated gilt? Is the voiding part of the striking?

Not badge related really but,

I picked up a regimental picture of the Hasty P's that has Farley Mowat and his father on an infantry course in Borden at the Calgary show.
a famous and infamous Canadian author...
