Default LRDG - the real thing

Whenever I see LRDG insignia for sale I always think that there is a good chance that the items will be fake. So when I bought a few Rhodesian uniforms from a lady in Cape Town and was told that her late father in law had been a Rhodesian in the LRDG and a few of his badges and wings were for sale, I was very interested. Here they are, the wings particularly have a rather home-made look about them , but there is no arguing with the provenance. Also included was an embroidered hankerchief in the original registered envelope addressed to his parents back home in Rhodesia.

Default Lrdg

Many people forget the fact that the LRDG also had Rhodesians amongst it's ranks, I bought a box of bits which were predominantly African, amongst the debris was a brass shoulder title "LRDG". I looked on the website, which is predominantly New Zealand and there was the brass shoulder title.

From my experience badges turn up in the most unexplained places, if it looks good to you, then take a chance and buy, you may come unstuck, but if you do, put it down to experience.

Very nice items, theres some nice old ladies around even now. Wonder what happened to the photographs and medals?

I find the hankerchief particulary interesting as it has the badge for 2 Commando on it. Is there any connection there? Or is is there because of the LRDG Special Service Brigade connection?

Sadly, no medals or photos, but I was pretty happy with what I got.
There was some sort of operational connection with 2 Commando, but I'll try to find out more.

Hi

Very nice lot!

I have also a LRDG Rhodesian cap badge, it is the same design except brass.
