Default VAD badge

Does anyone here know much about these?

I assume the attached clipping says it all, except is the lower bar for attaching other items to it or ?

Jerry,

Most interesting, as you no doubt know, the Voluntary Medical Services Medal ( 266 in the Medal Year Book 2012 ) was instituted in 1932 and is a typical round medal with ribbon. Bars for additional periods of 5 years ( after the initial 15 years ) were " embellished with a Geneva Cross or Saltire...... "

The bar you show is reminiscent of the Imperial Service bar.

Thanks Peter.

I have to admit when I noticed it for sale I assumed it was WWI related because of the design. I have struggled to find out much about these apart from what I showed, though I think the suspender was for bars to add to the brooch for service.
