Canadian Scottish "clipped" cross badge
In an earlier string, there was some discussion about the clipped St Andrew's cross found on cap badges to the 2nd Battalion, The Canadian Scottish Regiment. An auction listing is offering a clipped badge for the queen's crown pattern of the badge. I was under the impression that the clipped badges were only a king's crown issue?

Since the 2nd Battalion was converted to artillery (66 Light anti-Aircraft Regiment, RCA) in 1946 and subsequently absorbed by the 1st Battalion, I have no reason to believe that a Q/C cap badge with clipped corners was ever worn.
I think that there are two possibilities. 1. The "rural" companies of the Canadian Scottish Regiment outside of "metro" Victoria may have clipped the corners following the 2nd Battalion custom. I doubt this myself as I remember seeing militia members from the platoon in Courtenay, BC in the early 1980s with the badges intact. 2. As I have mentioned in other posts, it could be an officers' sporran badge. Phil |
