Default Irish markings on bayonet

I acquire an 1856 pattern sword bayonet this morning. It is not in the best condition and lacks its scabbard but does have some interesting markings on it .

These include on the left side of the handle "8/0 4.CORK.COY RAMC M 1" ( the 1 might be 16 with a feint 6 )

I presume that the M is for militia can anyone please confirm if such a unit existed or does the M stand for something else ?

Thanks

P.B.

Peter

I know nothing about Bayonet markings but it is almost certainly the unit markings for no. 4 Cork Company R.A.M.C. Militia. This unit, part of the Irish command was a based at Victoria Bcks (now Collins Bcks) Cork City.

A cropped view of the entry from the 1906 Army List is attached .

Thanks John,

Turns a bayonet that has seen better days into a momento of a long gone unit.

Makes you wonder about the journey taken by the bayonet from Cork to an Antiques Fair at Uttoxeter Racecourse this morning.
