Combat title examples
The combat title is one of the most prolific and least expensive types of Canadian militaria to collect. The titles came into use in the late 60's, as an identifier on the newly issued combat uniform. The titles were issued for the permanent force first, and shortly later many reserve units started wearing combat titles, obtained at their own expense and of their own design. In the mid-late 70's, DND allowed both the permanent forces and reserves to acquire combat titles through the system. Since then, with the proliferation of embroidery machines and the ease of obtaining embroidered titles, a wide assortment of combat titles, official and unofficial, has been issued to the Canadian Forces. The combat title is now obsolete, having been withdrawn from use when the combat uniform was replaced by cadpat.
For interest, here are examples of unit procured and system procured combat titles for the Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders of Canada. Our British friends will recognize the A&SH dicing which was used as the identifier for a short period of time on combat slip-ons during the 1980's.
