Fixings. What's going on here then?
I've just secured this pair of 'collar dogs' of the Northern Lighthouse Board' and was wondering if any expert member could suggest the method of fixing to the uniform.
There is no space for a backing plate like the larger cap version, so I'm guessing that they were either fixed directly using the wires or via a serge patch and then sewn on? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks. |

Manimal, I've a couple of shoulder 'pips' with this type of fixing, they are used to attach the 'pip' to a full dress shoulder board.
Don't know if this applies to your badge. Cheers Tony.

I have Salvation Army cap badges with that type of fastener. They attach directly to the cap by pushing the wires through and bending them over.

Fixings.
Thanks guys.
Had nothing like it before myself and apparently they came from Gaunt on a card. Also pretty recent by the look of them. Thanks again for your advice. M. |

interesting badges
mannimal
nice pair of badges, I have been collecting lighthouse badges for many years and not seen these ones before. The fixing is interesting as it is a departure from the usual NLB fixing type. The badge itself is a smaller design of the assistant light keepers cap badge. Sometimes collar badges are seen for sale but usually with the letters PLK on them- denoting Principal Lighthouse Keeper. These seem to be more available than what you have found. I have a visit to the Fraserburgh NLB Musuem in July and will be checking their collection for info. |
