North of ireland imperial yeomanry
Hi all,
Does anyone have a picture of a genuine North of Ireland Imperial Yeomanry cap badge? Indeed can anyone suggest pointers on how to spot a genuine one and avoid the restrikes? Thank-you Sean |

Cheers Michael, A very nice badge! I'm still looking for a good example and with so many restrikes about I am trying to be careful. The NOIIY is basically very similar to the North Irish Horse badge and I assume one was based ont he other or vice versa. Hope to pick up one soon. Thank-you Sean |

Hi all. I came across this old thread and wanted to ask the members what there opinion is of this one I saw recently. Not a badge I am aware of much and haven't seen any other than a few pictured on this thread and couple of others. There seems to be dispute of what is a real one.
Any thoughts appreciated. Simon. Last edited by LONGSHANKS; 01-03-13 at 04:30 PM. |

Hi Simon,
The larger of the two IY badges (KK1391) should look like the NIH version of the same size http://www.britishbadgeforum.com/for...ictureid=83568 Note that the hair should not be touching the top of the wing. The smaller badge (KK1392) should look like this: http://www.britishbadgeforum.com/for...ictureid=83564 Garry |

I take it then Garry, your thoughts are the one I posted isn't a good one.

Well, I would like to say keep it until others add their weight to the discussion. Never bin your badges on the say-so of one member. You need a weight of evidence to convince me to take that sort of action. The more people who get involved in the discussion, the probability of a positive outcome is reached (unless they were all taught wrongly by the same master!).

Sure, agreed Garry. I was just curious on the badge and always willing to learn about badges; even though it's out of my area of collecting.
Cheers Simon. |

The only good ones that I have seen (doesn't mean to say is correct) is the maid's hair does not come into contact with the wing. The exception to this is the later badge (WW2) which was a smaller version.

Thanks.
Not sure though how big this one is, so might be the smaller one. Simon. |

Simon, It purports to be the North of Ireland Imperial Yeomanry (NIIY). A unit in existence until 1908. It is feasible that it was worn past this date but it's pushing it to suggest it was worn in WW2
