Royal Warwickshire Regiment With Dodgy Smith & Wright Marking
Hi Guys,
Out of all the A/A badges that I have identified as being both officially authorised for issue and bulk manufactured a genuine Royal Warwickshire Regiment cap badge is the only item I have been unable to find and use in the book. There are plenty of what I consider to be unofficial commission around that I believe were made in the 1980's by Gaunt. These badges, and many others like them, come with a blank slider which has its roots firmly planted within the Gaunt organisation. Anyway, it seems that the 'bad lads' out there have gone one step further and have been adding dodgy Smith & Wright markings post anodising and colour dyeing. See attached images. Note also the damage to side of the slider seen from the front of the badge where a piece of reinforcing has been placed to accommodate the S&W mark area as found on the other side. This came from a dealer here in New Zealand so I wonder how old this marking is which, undoubtedly, has been used on other A/A badges. Price was approx. 1 pound 25p which I would suggest is a quid to much. Regards Chris |

Yes, that's the main one used by the company (including a full stop following the LTD) but they did use a couple of other obscure markings too on their A/A badges.
The point I'm making here is that an originally 'iffy' badge has been messed about with having a 'dodgy' mark applied to it thus making it a very 'suss' piece indeed. Regards Chris |

For another £50 he could have bought the book and saved money in the long run.... |

The "S" looks like it a different font to the other letters.
Was it a KC Parachute Regt badge that a decidedly dodgy Smith & Wright mark on the slider ? Images were posted a few years ago . |
