Hi
I served in the 4/7th DG . Cap badge white metal only , Shoulder titles brass , shoulder badges white metal only . Belt brown with brass buckle and a small white metal badge in the middle . Number two dress is the same material as every other Reigment . Flash behind the berret and flash on the right army . Spencer |

I assume that you mean COLLAR BADGES in white metal and not shoulder badges ? Is the brown belt a crossbelt or waistbelt ? Beret flash behind the badge is maroon and is diamond shaped. If I remember correctly Sgt's,SSgt's, Warrant Officers and officers wore a smaller beret badge (same size as the collar badge). Also I thought that the "D Day flash" was worn on the upper left arm in No2 dress ?. NCOs (Cpl and above I think but am prepared to be corected) wore the NCOs arm badge on their right arm above rank chevrons, it was similar in design to the cap badge and alo worn on maroon backing. (was never a member of the regiment but worked with quite a few soldiers from the unit) OC14 |

This is not offered as a complete list but you may find it of help.
Officer's cap badge: Hallmarked silver (Private puchase). Silver plate. Silver plate, with red enamel. Silver plate and gilt, with red, white and blue enamel. I am not 100% sure if they are genuine, but I have seen bronze OSD badges aswell. Other rank's cap badge: White metal. Silver anodised. NCO's arm badge: 1st pattern - White metal. (On black leather backing). 2nd pattern - White metal. (On black leather backing). 2nd pattern - Silver anodised. (On black cloth backing). 2nd pattern - Embroidered. Backings are circular. See the pics below for the two different patterns. As for the collars, S/titles, belts and pouches I wouldn't know as I don't collect them. STM. The belt was a waist belt but not leather more like shiny plastic ( still have mine ) That was private issue you had to buy one . The Sgts and WO2 & WO1 wore a small cap badge which was a collor dog . The D day flash was worn on the Berret only behind the badge but not on the number 2 hat . The No2 hat was blue with a black chin strap . The D Day flash was also on the left arm but I can't remember if it was the same for officers . White lanyard .
All badges were in white metal only the shoulder titles were in brass . |

Hi Jonny, Here's my cap & collars, all w/m. Slider on the cap badge, lugs on the collars, all the best, Wilf.

Friend of mine was the CO`s driver at some point. He said that some of the staybrite badges had to be reissued due to them being too dull.He has shown me his collection of 4/7 and there is a marked difference in the finished colour.
Also that the senior NCO`s and WO`s wore a collar badge sized badge in the beret as do the RDG`s today. He added that it was a collar badge with a lug not a slidered badge. |

Many Thanks everyone for contributing, I have a few of the badges to the regiment and had been thinking of trying to collect a few more, the S/G/E officer badges are great examples.
