Silver bullion eagle
Hi, another pick-up this w/end. Any ideas as to what this eagle could be? Probably something blindingly obvious but I can't find it, thanks in advance, Mike

The only thing I can think it can be is an eagle cut from an RAF blazer badge. I'm positive its not a uniform badge.

Looks like a RCAF WD (women's division) bullion eagle?

Aside from officer cap badges, the RCAF WD never used bullion badges..

Are you sure it is silver and not gold bullion which has been rubbed a lot to loose its gilt?
What is the size wing tip to wing tip? If ther is a hint of gilt and the size is right, then the possibility is RNAS. John |

Hi, had almost forgot about them. Took me a while to find them. They are 7.9cm and I'm pretty sure it's silver and not gilt. Mike

I'm not aware of the RNAS using a bullion eagle either. Cuff eagles were gilt..

Other Ranks arm badges for the No1 Dress used gold bullion eagles.

My comment had nothing to do with the badge shown in this thread but was a response to your previous comment.

RCAF Dress uniform, circa 1925 shoulder epaulettes
Hi fearnaught:
I just came across your thread and thought I would add my 2 cents. I have a RCAF Officers Dress uniform, circa 1925, with similar - not identical eagles embedded into the shoulder epaulettes. It's hard to say what you would see for backing if you cut them off. It appears they are stitched directly into the blue material of the uniform epaulette. They measure about 45 mm tip to tip. The colours vary between images as some use flash, some are natural light and some are tweaked to enhance the bullion which is nondescript on its own. It's hard to tell if the eagles are silver bullion of if they had a light gold finish at some point in time. As an aside, I've also included a shot of the bullion cypher pilots wing which is on this uniform; a pretty nice and rare example in itself. Cheers, Wayne |
