Anodised Aluminium Book
Hi Guys,
I'm having a lot of email, visitor messages and PM's re: book so at the risk of blowing my own trumpet and boring every one here is where things stand. Basically the book is text written unless I come across other information which would be included in one of the appendixes. What is outstanding is a package of badges which I desperately need more to illustrate the 'possibles' appendix where I have identified 12 (possibly 13) badges which look good but for which I have no official authorisation to issue. This section is called: Acknowledged Non-Authorised Cap Badges of the British Army Badges included here include: 7th (The Leeds Rifles) Battalion, The West Yorkshire Regiment (Princes of Wales’s Own) Birmingham University UTC 7th Queen’s Own Hussars Queens’s Royal Regiment (West Surrey) etc. I need quite a few of these as I only collect authorised for issue items so have passed these by as they come onto the market. Apart from photographing and incorporating these items this just leaves me to ensure that all images do not have background 'noise' in them. The standard these days is for all images to be on white backgrounds and this means that the area surrounding the badge must also be totally white too with the removal of the odd grey patch picked up during photographing. All images will then be further checked (again) for acceptance but I think that 95% are currently acceptable and the remainder re-evaluated. I still need to do an index based on units and personalities but should be relatively easy to do via the publishing software which is called InDesign. All up I hope to have this off to the printers in early January as apart from the above there is little else to do. Sales will initially be via the forum (thanks Mike) and then eBay so anyone here who wants a copy here will get one. I hope to do some copies in slip boxes too. Fingers crossed for shipping in Feb 2012. Here is the prtotype contents page - page numbers are reasonably accurate although some chapter names have changed to be more readable.: Table of Contents Chapters 1. A Brief History 1 2. I believe that two of these badges are unobtainable though. Regards Chris Last edited by hagwalther; 11-12-11 at 09:13 AM. |

Hi Mike,
I have a general idea but need to get final quotes. It should save collectors heaps though and this will be one of its strengths. Regards Chris |

In the light of what has happened with most books that have become the "standard work " on a variety of militaria related subjects, members would be well advised to buy a copy as soon as it is published if it is a subject in which they have an interest.
Years later you may want a copy and be amazed at what copies are then selling for and regret not having bought a copy when the book was first published and when you could have afforded it. ( It has happened to me many times over the years ) P.B. Anyone got a cheap copy of the Volunteer Artillery by Westlake ?

Think the Brummagem UTC is probably a pressed tin fake. If you still need 'em, I'll be home in a week and will send whatever yr outstanding requirements are. Further to the Leeds Rifles thread I can add the following. In 1996 I was on a course for ACF instructors at Sennybridge. One of the officers leading the course was still badged Leeds Rifles. Being a 'badger' I asked him about this and it was a tad convoluted but he was authorised to wear the badge. However, I believe that the last unit to wear the badge, possibly a Grammar school in Leeds were nolonger wearing it or about to stop wearing it. This may be why the badge is still in abundance though probably never worn by the TA. Paul laycock may have an idea who the officer in question was.
Amusingly on the course I was badges Robin Hood Rifles. |
