Post Re: Badges of the ZAR Zuid-Afrikaansche Republiek

Hello everyone,

Well I enclose a couple of photo's of 2 badges I picked up a long while ago. I have had some success in researching them and thought that other members would be interested in seeing them.

I'd be very interested to see if any other member have come across the type of badge before or have seen similar themselves.

Thank you,

TheBreaker02

Having "secret police" written on your cap badge is not very secretive.

Were these really capbadges - which would be self-defeating - or were they perhaps identity badges, to be produced when necessary? They have numbers on them which suggest that they may have been the latter.

Hi Arthur, I agree with your thinking that they were most likely ID badges. Regards Andrew

Never knew of these chaps or seen these badges, however they could be regarded as the forerunners of the infamous "BOSS" The Bureau of State Security! see link: http://www.sahistory.org.za/dated-ev...ss-established

The enamel version is particularly nice, well done in securing them.
