The Old Contemptables and 1914 15 Star Association
Hello everyone.
I came across this badge a few days ago, which I thought might interest fellow members who would like to see this rare and unusual enamel lapel badge with the following information: "There were various branches of the 'Old Contemptible’s and 1914-15 Star Association' throughout the G.W.R. They met annually right up until nationalisation and presumably beyond while there were enough members still living to keep them going. Mr A Hitchman was chairman of the Swindon branch in 1946 and that year they met at the Frome Hotel. A short silence was held in memory of fallen comrades." I have never seen this badge before and I wonder what ever happened to them as an association, I imagine they were either absorbed or amalgamated with the original Old Contemptible’s Association, I don’t think many of them would have survived as a separate old comrades organisation, however this one seems to have done so. Cheers, TheBreaker02
