Default Belgian Army in UK

Hello,

Here is my Belgian Army in United Kingdom pocket badge. It was made in UK during the WWII. It has no marking but is reputed to have been made by J.R. Gaunt & Son (?). It was silver plated at a time but many of the silver has now been worn out. Your remarks will be welcomed. J-F

A very nice badge not, to my knowledge, subjected to reproduction, as yet ! A valuable part of the WW2 allied forces story.

Thumbs down

I have two variants of this breast badge one as above silver finished and flat backed and a second a stamped out version in Brass both on pins and unmarked I am unsure if their is a regimental reason for this can anyone advise?

Cap badges came with them I suspect WW2 vintage can any one confirm

Nice badges! The UK made Gaunt badge are getting hard to find these days!

I think the colour variation is due to polishing the badge? I have never read or heard anything about the difference in colour representing a distinctive branche within the 1st belgian brigade. (unlike the silver lion cap badge worn by the armoured car squadron and the others a brass lion)

Yorkstone, the lion above your hollow back BAIUK badge is a postwar version, the ww2 manufactured ones have British red copper lugs

By the way a friend of mine has a badge that has the owners service number (4 digits) stamped on its back (It is a full back made by gaunt) but this was done probably on a individual level

Thank your that I have just checked the back of 2nd breast badge and it does have a silver finish.

As you said it has been polished, re cap badges nice to date them I have other cap badges I will check and post later hope to see those copper lugs.

I aquired A large groupingf of items some time ago both Belgian and Dutch

Regards

Stephen
