WW2 Kriegsmarine Mine Sweepers Badge http://www.manions.com/archive/artic...er%20badge.htm No.3 This looks like the side emblem from the Afrika Korps pith helmet. http://www.bwmilitaria.com/items/884...4817store.html |

I think the pith helmet badge had been "modified" at some time.
The original fixing was with two or three "prongs" into the helmet. The National Colours shield would have been worn on the other side. |

The first one is possibly a Luftwaffe other ranks cap badge. It looks like a post-war one I have (mine is without the swastika). I'm open to other opinions on that though since I'm not a German badge collector. David

HI mate, i personally think that they are all wrong.
They look like lead type metal to me, and the DAK helmet shield is VERY crudely made. I may be wrong, try the Wehrmacht Awards Forum as they will be all over them like a tramp on chips, but i wouldnt touch them with a bargepole myself. regards jON |

The first two are REALLY poor copies, I would just avoid them all!

there not led. they dont bend and are of solid but lighter construction than if in led. i must say i am supprised if these are modern copies as they came from a collection of ww2 badges including many italian, british, south african and all are genuine. anyway, i bow to your opinions as i have no idea of german badges and to be honest have little interest in them. cheers bc |

If you have them in hand and they do not bend then please ignore my post. A good lesson for me passing judgement from photos only. Have a good weekend Dave

As Jon pointed out the Wehrmacht Awards Forum is the place to check out anything German related... be it helmets, uniforms, firearms ,ordnance, medals and of course badges. There are a pile of experts in every area and if they are restikes / copies they'll let you know.... I personally try and stay away from German items as they are heavily copied and some of those copies are very convincing. If you have items you are considering buying it's worth your time to research it on that forum as there are plenty of threads with examples available on just about everything. My first thoughts on all three of your badges is that they aren't good.... but again I would defer to the WAF

Hi Guys.
The Minesweeper and Sub-Chasers badge is in my opinion an original piece probably made by Adolf Scholze from around 1942 onwards. The material content is zink with the correct ball hinge, needle and crimped clasp as used by this maker. Condition is quite poor though and pieces like this, by this maker are found in much better condition for around the 120 Euro mark. I cannot speak for the other items as they do not make up my collecting brief. Regards Chris |

Hi Guys,
Here is my Schwerin made, tombak Minesweeper badge. Note the fire gilding to the wreath - this is found on all the early Kriegsmarine badges. Tombak material badges are the ones to get if available. Zink badges eventually lose their finish by repelling the coloured finish hence the almost grey all over colour of the original posting. Regards Chris |
