Question AA NCO Arm Badge : LDYPAO : Makers Mark?

Hi All

NCO Arm badge: Leicestershire & Derbyshire Yeomanry (PAO)
Does anyone have this AA NCO Arm badge in their collection? If so..... does it have a makers mark on the back of it?

Is it a "Firmins" or "J R Gaunt" or "no makers mark" badge?

Default N.C.O arm badge in a/a

Hi Griff,
I have one of these arm badges - sadly no makers name but it has lugs which were typically used by Firmin or Smith & Wright only.

Hi UKBrits

Thanks very much for that..... could you post some high def pictures front and back of the badge and one back angled showing the loops?

Sadly this is the only badge of the LDY's I dont have ...yet. I would like to think that there are two variations .... one from Gaunt and one Firmin. I can go down to the Squadron and check their badges to see if they differ.... I think they have about 8 real ones left!

BTW..... the F (LDY) Squadron Cadets have a pin back version..... copied from an origional and made locally.... I have two of those (very good copies, pins are a bit weak though).

Perfect..... thank you very much

Also very interesting...... notice that in my picture of the Arm badge..... that the spaces between "LDY" are silver coloured meaning that there is no attached LDY and your example has them filled in showing the attached LDY in gold AA (a 2 piece badge as opposed to just one piece). Is this evidence of two different makers?

Default AA NCO Arm Badge

Griff,

Images of mine attached. The bullion is submitted purely for the interest of others.

Note the ex-owners's initials scratched onto the AA badge which I take to indicate some authenticity. If you know whose they might be it would then date it.

Stephen.

PS- Any joy with my Leicester AVC enquiry?

Hi Stephen

Another nice "2 piece"..... it might be a bit of a stretch establishing who "VW" is.... but you never know Your No1 dress bullion badge looks pukka also..... I have seen some dodgy ones on eBay recently.

Re: RAVC ..... I have yet to get in the roof and dig out the book. I should get time today

Default F (LDYPAO) Squadron Cadets

Here is the copy of the 2 piece LDYPAO NCO arm badge that the cadets use on their uniform. This is made in Loughborough and when they get them they paint the "LDY" with gold modelling paint.
