Cef Badges With Sliders
hi all
this may be a silly question, but how common was it to have a slide fit on a CEF badge? http://cgi.ebay.com.au/CANADIAN-WW1-...QQcmdZViewItem http://cgi.ebay.com.au/CANADIAN-WW1-...QQcmdZViewItem i know it is uncommon on the aussie badges (english made rising suns only) and looking at the fantastic collection of LL Will, i dont remember seeing any? what other commonwealth countries also adopted sliders in WW1 or post? Don't know how common it is/was, but Babin lists sliders among the fasteners used and Charlton's First Canadian Corps Badges lists a few with sliders (1st Mounted Rifle Bttn., 2ns Mounted Rifle Bttn., 4th CMMR, 10th Mounted Rifles, and a smattering of others as example).
I don't have the Charlton book of CEF battalion badges, but maybe someone who has can speak specifically to the 2 battalions in question. |

Actually many CEF badges show up with sliders. Once they appeared in Britian the maunfactuers there started making them with the brass sliders apparently sticking to field units in France with exceptions such as the physical instructors badge with Canada banner and the Geo V CYPHER badge with banner worn by HQ staff. So the rule of thumb is field units are known except artillery which none are known.
