Another great album Dean. One point that I have wondered about was the scarcity of cavalry shoulder titles. I've been after a 2D titles for a while and only seen a couple. In terms of numbers produced does anyone know how say a cavalry (squadron?) compares to an infantry battalion specific title or even regiment? I realise this maybe very unit dependant and generalisations may be difficult. Also on the same vein are cavalry units generally comparable in terms of numbers who served over the same period, say WW1?

Forgotten Badge
Great card Dean.... Don't forget that KDG changed their badge in 1915 to the Star and Garter example. You would need to put both KDG badges on your card for it to be truly representative... Good Skills though....

Thanks CB I had thought to do that but it meant repeating the shoulder title and so I thought I would put a stop at 1914 and display the changes in a seperate display to cover the post war amalgamations. It gave me a wobble with two LG titles as it is. Wondered if I should show an ORs and an Officers 1st or 2nd Life Gusrds badges with OR larger title alongside a smaller Officers LG shoulder title.
What a hobby, cheers Dean |

Dean, having looked again, I have concerns with that 7th Dragoon Guards looks like the 'skinny' type copy, also the 6th Inniskilling Dragoons, I would prefer voided windows in the two towers and the number of brick courses above the central window looks wrong, just my opinion of course. Have a look here. http://www.britishbadgeforum.com/for...ad.php?t=48990
Cheers Tony.

Dean, the 1st Life Guards and the 2nd Life Guards wore the numbers 1 or 2 above the LG on their respective shoulder titles.

Hello Hoot- do you know if 1LG and 2LG S/Ts were worn through The Great War? Have you seen pictures or documentation to confirm? I wonder if such use stopped early in the war and that then both just used LG. Regards, Paul.

Paul, as far as I am aware, the complete titles were worn throughout the war. In "British Army Cap Badges Of The First World War" by Peter Doyle and Chris Foster, on page 38, there is a photo of three cavalrymen, they are wearing the 1916 pattern soft caps and the 2LG man's shoulder titles can be clearly seen.

Thanks Hoot. I had not noticed the type of cap in use in that picture. My grandfather was 2LG in 1918 and the family picture I have of him looks to show a one part ST-could be possibly that the light only caught on one part of it. I have never seen a joined 1LG or 2LG so I take it they were worn in two parts. I would be happy to see any pictures showing 1LG or 2LG STs. Regards, Paul.

This gets more interesting by the day. You would think by now we would have established what cap badge and shoulder titles were worn by regular infantry, cavalry and yeomanry but we still have gaps in knowledge and photographic eveidence is a great tool to assist. I am putting my albums together for that very purpose, cheers Dean - off to look for a 1 and 2 now!
