Smile 17th Lancers

What a find! almost certainly a bazaar made item, from memory a chap who I knew who served in Palestine c1946-7 with the Artillery told me that the 17/21st Lancers wore a different badge to "the motto" when serving there. Quite what the sort of badge they wore was he did not say.

Looking at this badge with the XVII, I would think it would pre date the 1922 amalgamation. A friend has suggested it could be a mess servants badge. If these badges turn up in any quantity I would be suspicious, but as this is the first I have ever seen, I think it is worth further research.

Thumbs down 17th Lancers !!!! Genuine or not

Its the 2nd version i've seen. The other was white metal. No record or image of such a badge exists within the regiment. Looks to be a cross over from the 21st lancers badge.

Very typical of Indian made cast badges. The lugs are unique to Indian made badges, although British style lugs were used as well.

The other version I saw was a purchase by a mate of mine at a military fair [Beltringe in Kent] about 18 months ago.

As someone who has a love of all items "Bonehead", I have to say that that badge is absolutely fantastic. :-)
