Default AMMO UK

Have just been given a few metal UK Military badges bearing the makers name of "AMMO UK" on the slider. Are these genuine issue badges, re-strikes or just plain rubbish? I am new to badge collecting, so please forgive me if this is a dumb question.

These are to my knowledge well made modern badges generally to serving units at the time. Probably with collectors in mind, but could be worn by serving members of a unit as replacements badges.

I believe this company have swallowed up a lot of the old military insignia and equipment suppliers and produce amongst other things Stable Belts and Ceremonial Cross Belts for Regiments.

Interesting history in their brochure that differs from my version for AMMO & CO, which was started by Tony Hammond retired Para WO1, specialising in supplying items for PRI shops then adding cap badges to his stock. Now I know what happened when he died and the company was taken over hence the poorer quality of the badges.

When there was a shortage of MoD anodised aluminium badges for the QRIH Ammo & Co supplied them direct in metal. As far as I know this was the only officially worn badge.

another thread concerning metal QRIH other ranks badges made me remember this post. Are there any approximate dates for the supply of these badges?

I believe AMMO UK Badges & AMMO & Co Birmingham to be 2 different companies

The QRIH & MPGS issued badges were supplied by AMMO UK as far as I can remember

I have been looking for AMMO UK marked RAOC and RLC examples, I have an unmarked RLC with colourerd garter strap I believe to be AMMO UK!

Mike, here is a photo of mine, front & rear (a bit dark) I suppose I will have to add a RAOC one to my list.
Just aside from topic I was listening to a couple of old boys talking in a pub about their National service days and one said he was RAOC-Royal Army Overseas Commandos. Never heard that before.

Yep I have heard of Royal Army Overseas Commandos

Along the same lines as

Rag And Oil Company
Rickshaws, Camels & Taxies
Real Cool Truckers
Aldershot Cement Company
Almost Catering Certified
Rough Engineering Made Easy

but less derogatory :-)

Yes looks like my unmarked example.

If you do come across another RLC 'AMMO UK' example I would be interested, same as if you came across two RAOC examples!
