4/7 Dragoon Guards mess cap - no badge yet
I have a 1960/70s 4/7 Dragoon Guards side (mess) cap. With no sign of a badge having been present. Did they only use cloth badges, or metal/staybight for NCOs?
Cheers PA Jock |

4/7th side cap
the 4/7th royal dragoon guards side cap you refer to is called a torin or austrian cap, the officers version had an embroidered bullion wire badge and the other ranks version had a white metal collar badge (30mm highx 30mm wide) on it with 2 x lugs, its pretty hard to work out from my photograph where the badge should be, but i think im close enough if i said from bottom of cap 15mm to bottom of star point and 48mm from front of cap to point of star, collar badge is worn on the left hand side.hope this is usefull to you. regards john

John
One more question, was the collar badge only a smaller version of the regular cap badge, or different in design? Tried web research without success Regards Mark |

4th/7th collar badge
hi mark, your going to kick yourself, at the very top of this page there is a list called current projects click on number 5 which is british cavalry badges, then scroll down to 4th/7th royal dragoon guards and look in there, the white metal other ranks cap badge and collars are both there so you can see what your looking for. by the way its a very common collar so you shouldnt have any trouble finding some. hope this helps. regards john
