Morning Dave

This is the RIF Pipers badge worn on the pouch or arm or somewhere (no proof of this BTW)..... i think we have had a couple of posts about this in the past. I made one post not so long ago about the No.8 Eagle.

this eagle badge type has been discussed quite a few times.to my limited knowledge there has never been a photo of it being worn or any documents about it

Cheers gentlemen,

Matti, I see you are still struggling to join the Andy and Dave show, we don't do funny, just droll.......as you so often have to write, " must try harder "

As for all the other replies and I've also back tracked to the post indicated by g-g-a ( thanks for that my friend ) but now, because we haven't a definitive answer, I'm left with another quandry.

A long time ago, I acquired a similar badge, in design, from a good mate, one that I've always been dead chuffed with and I'm sure I've highlighted it somewhere on the forum before, see photo's.

Different metal, slightly smaller but still with the number 8, several people in the past have suggested ' pouch ' and I've been happy to put it in with my Valise section and J.P. no, you still can't have it ! so, where do we go now ??

Keep thinking gentlemen......

Dave.

Hi Dave,
Your eagle in the later photo with the screw post fittings is an absolutely kosher Royal Irish Regiment / Royal Irish Rangers officers pouch badge - which is very nice indeed.

The earlier picture, which this post is about is the mystery brass eagle, which there has been many queries on this forum about. Last time I visited their (fantastic) museum in Armagh, I spoke to one of the staff, who really knows his stuff, and he says the best explanation of this badge is that it is a copy (or if you are very very lucky indeed - an original) Regimental Police arm badge. I hope this may be of some help.

John

Cheers John,

I doubt if I were to be lucky enough to land a genuine badge but I must say the gm badge does ' feel ' good ( or do I want it to feel good ? ), I think I'm going to keep it and have a little collection of, for arguments sake, suspicious badges................................like my gm 14th London

Hope you're well by the way, it seems to have quietened down a little over there ?

All the best.

Dave.

Dave,
You sure that you havn't unearthed a Roman centurions eagle arm badge? Perhaps dropped by the Emperors bodyguard whilst checking the defences of Londinium the day before he fled the Boudican uprising...
Maybe it is the 8th Legion...
I knew my education would come in handy...you could put it with your Scottish collection the link being the Royal Scots (Pontius Pilates Bodyguard)?
Does that help? I'd be surprised if it doesn't!!!
Matti

Dave - yes you have posted this one before, it is a perfectly good Officer's cross belt pouch Badge of the current Royal Irish Regiment.

See Malcs post here for the difference between it and that worn by the Royal Irish Rangers.

Thanks John,

I've just read the thread and with your remarks I would say that it's pretty conclusive, I really appreciate everyone's input and I am now completely satisfied...................another one put to bed, so to speak.

Thanks everyone.

Dave.

Were the 8th Legion ever stationed on these shores?
