The King’s Own Borderers Helmet Plate Centre 1881-1884 FSC Modification

In gilding metal. Three towers of Edinburgh Castle on the Castle Rock. At the base a scroll inscribed ‘Nisi Dominus Frustra’. To the reverse a single deep rectangular copper loop. This is the standard helmet plate centre worn 1881-1884 with the circlet removed for wear on the field service pattern cap. Often mistaken as a collar badge. (See Churchill C., ‘History of the British Army Infantry Collar Badge’)
