The Roman double headed eagle is from the arms of¬†Lanark¬†Burgh, the symbol originating from the roman occupation of the area. The handbell, ‘St Mungo’s Bell’ symbolises St. Kentigern (or St Mungo’s), the ancient parish church of Lanark.
