Default Pipers A/A Head-Dress Badges

Hi Guys,

With the exception of the Queen's Own Highlanders (Seaforth and Camerons) pipers badge are there any others known to exist that were made in anodised aluminium?

If so, can they be posted here please.

Regards

Chris

Alan

I wonder if they are really a/a silver anodized or are they chromed metal?

I have never come across an a/a version nor have I seen any reference to one. The later examples all appear to be chromed metal to me which could be mistaken for a/a from a visual inspection only.

below a photo of the current pipers star with flash turned off, real thing appears somewhat brighter in reality.

I'm pretty sure the Irish Guards is Chromed metal, as is the Royal Irish Regiment.
The Royal Irish Rangers and North Irish Brigade ones were both silver and gilt and the UDR was gilt.

Not too sure about the Scottish ones

Thanks Guys,

If there are any more do post them here as this may be an area that I have missed. Only head-dress not interested in kilt or sporran items.

Regards

Chris

Alan,
they are chromed metal and as far as I am aware have never been struck in anodised aluminium! Prior to the chromed badges they were whitemetal, the change over being quite recent!

Queens University Belfast ,all silver as opposed to all gold. They no longer have piper band as i recall.
Gordon School Woking ,again all silver as opposed to all gold.
Army Apprentices School ,again all silver opposed to gold.

Black Watch

Possibly some of the cavalry regts that have a Scottish or Irish connection.

This last one with throw you.
Royal Regt of Fusiliers
They carry or carried a number of pipers for a time. Something to do with the Northumberland Fusiliers.Dress was standard No1 dress, beret with hackle and badge and a plaid of "Shepards" tartan which was a blue and white pattern. If anybody has a copy of "The Regiment" magazine there is info inside and a nice colour photo on the front cover of an RRF piper.

Thanks Mike,

I have a couple of these covered in Queens University Belfast and Army Apprentices School. However:

re: Gordon School - I actually have a silver one - I assume a gold one is used also?

re: Black Watch - can you elaborate here - can't remember seeing a reference to A/A piper badge anywhere.

re: Royal Regt of Fusiliers - was(is) there a dedicated A/A badge for this regiment too?

Regards

Chris

Gordon School silver pipers badge is the same as the OTC except the colour.

Black Watch dont have a hat badge except for pipers and bandsmen. The red hackle was worn in the TOS and as they also wear a TOS in No1 dress hence red hackle in No1`s too.Pipers and bandsmen wear the glengarry with badge.

RRF pipers wear/wore the same badge as the remainder of the battalion.
