Hi Steve,

Some VERY interesting patches there - The only badge I have for Air Sea Rescue is below .... Could you tell me, is this the same organisation, please? If it is would these be 'official' or 'unofficial' because of the post 1936 formats?

+ Anthony

Default Badges & crests

Hi Anthony,
The ASR badges were for uniform wear. If you were a crashed pilot in the English Channel the guy with the boat hook who fished you out of the water on the RAF launch would have one of these cloth badges sewn on his arm. A 'trade badge' of sorts.
Your unit crests were sometimes worn as uniform badges, particularly by pilots on flight suits. But mostly they appeared on station gate boards, mess menus, official letter headings etc.
Both official & from the same unit.
All the best,
Alan.

HI Anthony
Your 1st badge is a unit badge for the 207 rescue squadron which was based in Aden during the war and is, looking at it a vetrans badge as the crown is the Queens type.
The 2nd is the Air Sea Rescue badge again this is the AIR SEA RESCUE and MARINE SECTIONS CLUB old club badge this was changed due to the RAF copy rights etc in 2008 pic of the new one
thanks steve

Hi Alan and Steve,

Alan: Thanks again for helping me out - you've got a habbit of doing that - but I've found if I ask, it's better than being ignorant about it and I might actually learn something!

Steve: Now I never knew there was a Club! *back to school* ... thanks for the info - you don't mind if I use that badge in my Empire to Commonwealth Project do ye? Please let me know ...

Merry Christmas - Nollaig shona dhuit - to ye both.

Hi Steve,

Thanks for the link - and my apologies for just getting around to look at it - family stuff going on here

I see these patches came in different colours - so I've bookmarked that link to take it all in! (Hey, it's mud upstairs so it takes time to sink in!)
