Default Navy Commando beach signals.

Hi Good morning ,

One of the areas of collecting and study i am very keen on are the Royal Navy`s more specialized units such as the Combined operations Commando beach signals.

Shown below is a photo i have that came to me with the guys medals and cloth badges etc .

I will add his name and unit in a bit , just thought i would share this and for a bit of fun ask what can you spot thats a bit unusual for a naval service man in the picture ? ( not the leather jerkin )
Photo taken D + 2 Normandy 1944.
regards ,Nemo

Possibly because he is attached to the Royal Corps of Signals and proud of it.

Is that mounted backwards? I understand the colour of the lettering on the shoulder title is the part of the AoS facing front.

That si the correct direction for the Signals. The white half goes to the reverse.

Hi,
Have seen photos showing Royal Marine and Commando Brigade HQ Signallers wearing the Royal Sigs A of S as well.

Believe this was an unofficial practice to show that they belonged to the Brigade/Division HQ signals. Probably why the RN Beach Sigs were using it as well.

Would be interested to hear if anyone has seen any official orders on this in any documents such as the Admiralty Fleet Orders.

Attached is a photo from the January 1944 issue of "Bulldozer" showings some RN personnel
on their Basic Parachute Course using the A of S.

Regards

Danny
