Who, when, Where ?......any info wanted on Life Guards Officers Cap Badge with red backing?

Red backing, Display for who ? I can't see the Life Guards sticking a bit of red felt behind without a reason..

I'd certainly be rather surprised at the thought of an officer in the Life Guards "sticking a bit of red felt behind" at all.
Bloody nice cap badge though!
