Anodised Aluminium Cap Badges By Turner & Simpson Ltd
Hi Guys,
Obscure company this weekend with little known about them. Two marks are known both T&S with one as a stamp by itself and the other on three concatenated circles. Entries so far: 304 Field Regt, RA (Essex Yeo) (St. Edwards Crown) Northamptonshire Regiment Royal Artillery (35mm) Royal Army Ordnance Corps Royal Engineers Regards Chris Last edited by hagwalther; 07-09-10 at 07:10 AM. |

This is what I've come up with so far: Little is known of this company except what can be gleamed from Birmingham Assay Office silver makers marks and from actual shop floor workers of Toye, Kenning & Spencer Limited who believe that this maker was active in the Birmingham Jewellery Quarter manufacturing similar products to Toye, Kenning & Spencer Limited until either the 1970’s or the 1980’s. (1) The silver mark used by Turner & Simpson is very similar to the badge maker marks and as such, gives credence to the claim above. Dates of recorded silver maker’s marks for this company range from 1913 to 1979. (2) The pattern card of the 304 Fd. Regt., R.A. (Essex Yeo) (Small) held by the Imperial War Museum in London has the associated badge marked as ‘T&S’ (as a stamping) with the pattern card sealing date of 30th May 1957. I've not put the foot notes in - ya will all have to wait untill the book is printed to see all the proof... Regards Chris |

Technical hitch
Hi Chris & 54 Bty,
Whoops, so used to taking pics of the backs of badges forgot to do the front.! Anyway, it has a seeded scroll which I guess makes it a type1 then? Shiny side to follow tomorrow for reference. Best Regards. UKbrits |

As stated in the TKS thread I have a spare T&S (plain stamped) RAOC example to trade but only looking for RAOC examples such as all silver anodised or Kings crown example.

The silver anodised will be a manufacturers error and I have yet to see any official evidence of a KC RAOC badge. I have the Army file to read again but I think the first A/A badge was in the mid 1960's. The RAOC sneaked in bi-metal QC badge while the Army Dress Committee wasn't looking and together with a few other units managed by their actions to change the procurement process. I need to check on all this again to make sure I'm right and when I do (which maybe some months from now) I'll let you know what I find out.
