Default India peggy & Cdo cloth badges

please comment on the four badges below. I'm pretty confident the peggy is fine, not too sure on the D Troop and the Salamander. the Skull is a mystery. i bought it off a seller on ebay who sold two previous and they went for big bucks. as they say "if its going for a large amount its likely (not always) be a good one!! never seen it in any books.

Many thanks is advance.

Both D-troop badges are outside my field of interest. The salamander patch seems to be from ebay seller cunnard.
The Indian Pegasus is unusual, the printed version is the standard formation sign but yours has some quality to it. Perhaps a private purchase example or a very good replica, very difficult to tell.

Thanks Luc, as you say the Peggy is very well made, i've seen the Cunard Salamanders its not one of his (even though the back is a mess, the front is alot better). i bought it a few years ago from a collector who was having a clear out. all his badges looked like the real deal. once again many thanks.

The salamander looks like a Petehal one to me, I got caught by a few of his bits early on, but have since given them to my GF to sew to a bag she uses

There is a picture of a commando wearing that particular 'skull' type of badge
in Peters book.
I was under the impression that the 'D' in the D troop badge was not square
but something like this - however I am not a Commando badge expert and
may well be under the wrong impression.

D troop wore the same badge as No3 troop which would be without the surrounding D, but perhaps Peter is best to comment.

A few yeras ago a massive amount of Indian Airborne stuff came out of a NZ estate. The guy was a Major in the 2nd Punjabs and was a para. A couple of battle dresses were with the stuff and they were embroidered like this. Didnt see the backs of them but these look nice.

That Pegasus certainly appears to be a good theatre-made piece but these things can be difficult to judge. The majority of Indian patches are indeed printed but I have seen embroidered before. Just of interest, is there some kind of dried coating on the reverse?. It has the look of a starch (glue) back Pegasus to me.

Cheers,

Kev C

Hi Kev, yes the back of the peggy has some kind of glue/wonder web, pretty much like you sometimes find on the Combined Ops badges.

That's interesting, the standard issue embroidered patch is commonly found with a glue or starch-like coating to help make it more durable. I still cant be certain but it's another indication that it might be a good 'un. Can't wait to hear what Peter has to say about this!.

Cheers,

Kev C
